Origins & Milestones

The Louisiana State Firemen’s Association (LSFA) was formed to unite firefighters across Louisiana in fellowship, training, and advocacy. Since our founding in the early 1900s, LSFA has championed initiatives that have shaped the state’s fire service.
From sponsoring the 1914 law refunding fire-insurance premiums to establishing the Louisiana State Fire College in 1931, our organization has been a driving force behind professional education and legislative progress. Over the decades, LSFA has continued to secure benefits, protections, and recognition for both volunteer and career firefighters statewide.
Our legacy reflects generations of leadership and collaboration dedicated to advancing safety, skill, and service in every community.

What began as a small network of committed firefighters has grown into a statewide association representing more than 350 fire departments and over 12,000 members.
LSFA remains steadfast in its original purpose - to build unity, elevate training, and advocate for those who protect Louisiana’s communities every day. As we look to the future, we continue to evolve, honoring our proud history while preparing the fire service for tomorrow’s challenges.
